Overview of School of Business
The School of Business at Penang International Dental College (PIDC) offers programmes designed to develop industry-ready graduates through a structured academic framework and practical learning experiences. Each academic year consists of three semesters, comprising 17-week long semesters and 9-week short semesters, inclusive of lectures, mid-term examinations, revision sessions, final examinations and semester breaks. Teaching and learning are conducted through face-to-face (F2F) and hybrid modes, with all learning materials provided in digital format via the Kolektif Learning Management System (LMS). Student performance is evaluated through Continuous Assessment (60%), which may include tests or quizzes, tutorials or practical activities, assignments and individual or group projects, as well as a Final Examination (40%) consisting of multiple-choice, structured or essay questions. Selected subjects within the Diploma in Business Studies programme incorporate Industry Engagement Learning, where industry partners participate in the assessment process to provide real industry exposure, enhance employability and strengthen industry–academia collaboration; students who successfully complete these modules will receive an additional certificate jointly issued by PIDC and the industry partner. The programme also includes a 16-week internship in Semester 7, arranged by the Internship Coordinator based on students’ academic performance and participating companies’ selection criteria. In addition, students are encouraged to organise and participate in college-wide activities such as community engagement initiatives, industrial talks, educational visits, e-sports events, and field trips to enrich their learning experience and personal development.
