Penang International Dental College (PIDC) is theFirst Dental College in India to offer a Twinning Programme of Bachelor's Degree in Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) by the Vinayaka Missions University at Salem. This endeavor was ventured by the Visionary and Philanthropist, Honourable Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, Chancellor of Vinayaka Missions University and executed by the Pro-Chancellor of Vinayaka Missions University, Dato' Dr. S. Sharavanan, who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Penang International Dental College. The First Batch of Students was admitted in April 2006.

            Vinayaka Missions founded the Vinayaka Mission Trust in the year 1981 and was conferred Deemed University status in 2001 and University status in 2006. Currently, the University has 21 Colleges offering professional diploma, graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The BDS degree offered by Vinayaka Missions University is recognized by the Dental Council of India, Malaysian Dental Council, Public Services Department of Malaysia and Sri Lankan Dental Council.

The College in Salem is situated about 320 kms west of Chennai / 200 kms south of Bangalore.

            Under the twinning programme offered at Penang International Dental College, the first two years of Preclinical Studies (Basic Sciences) is carried out at Penang International Dental College campus at Salem, after which they move onto the next three years of Clinical Programme at Penang International Dental College campus at Butterworth, Penang, Malaysia.

            The College is located 15 kms from Salem town in National Highway 47. The College premises comprise of five floors of buildings (4th to 8th floor) each measuring 10,000 sq. feet. There is an air-conditioned auditorium and lecture hall. Each Department is equipped with labs for Basic and Preclinical, Medical and Dental Subjects and an air-conditioned Library with a huge collection of books and journals enabling students to keep themselves up to date with the recent and current information, laboratory procedures and trends in Dentistry.

            Fully furnished, air-conditioned, twin sharing rooms are available in the College campus for students, a Cafeteria catering a variety of Malaysian and Indian dishes and a Pharmacy and Stores. There is a well equipped 400 bedded Hi-tech Hospital in the same campus, which provides Healthcare at optimal level. PIDC College & Hostel Campus are Wi-fi enabled.
